A case has been filed against 497 individuals, including several senior leaders of the Awami League and former public representatives, for their alleged involvement in an attack during the mass uprising in Barishal. 

Marzuk Abdullah, 20, senior joint member secretary of the Students Against Discrimination (SAD) Barishal district, filed the case at Kotwali Model Police Station last night (14 May).

The case names 247 individuals and includes 250 unidentified accused.

The charges include detonating explosives and launching an armed attack during a student protest in the district.
Mizanur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Model Police Station, confirmed about the case and said an investigation is underway. 

He added that efforts are being made to arrest the named accused.

Among those named in the case are former MPs Jebunnesa Afroz and Amir Hossain Amu, former Barishal City Corporation mayor Abul Khair Abdullah and his wife Luna Abdullah, Barishal Metropolitan Awami League general secretary and former mayor Serniabat Sadiq Abdullah, Metropolitan Awami League president Advocate AKM Jahangir and Central Jubo League joint general secretary Biswas Motiur Rahman Badsha.

Investigating officer SI Manik Chandra Saha stated that the incident took place on 26 July 2024, when the accused allegedly set off an explosion near the Christian Missionary Charity Organisation and launched an armed attack.
