Rupganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Liakat Ali confirmed the matter to The Business Standard.

According to eyewitnesses, one of the accidents happened on Rupshi-Kanchan road in the early morning, while the other occurred at 9am.

In the first accident, a collision happened between a motorcycle and a brick-laden trolley car, while a private car rammed into pedestrians in the second accident, eyewitnesses said.

The first accident happened when three friends who came to Rupganj in search of date juice were returning on a motorcycle.

Their motorcycle crashed into a brick-laden trolley when they reached the Jelepara area on the Rupshi-Kanchan road, killing Hridoy on the spot.

Two other riders of the motorcycle, Munna and Shanto, were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in critical conditions, added eyewitnesses.

Meanwhile, a speeding private car lost control and ran into the footpath at Hatabo Jelepara area at 9am, killing pedestrians Ram Das and Ebadullah on the spot.

Four other pedestrians identified as Abu Taher, Radhaman, Sharbasshar and Anik were seriously injured in the incident, eyewitnesses present at the spot said.

OC Liakat said the drivers of the private car and the brick-laden trolley car have been detained and the vehicles have been seized.

"Legal actions will be taken over these incidents," he added.
