In a Facebook post today (15 February), NCP spokesperson Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain said, “We are preparing to form a shadow cabinet"
Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain, chief of the election management committee of the National Citizen Party, a key ally of the Jamaat-e-Islami-led alliance, has announced plans to form a shadow cabinet, following the BNP's sweeping victory in the recently concluded national election.
In a Facebook post today (15 February), NCP spokesperson Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain said, "We are preparing to form a shadow cabinet.
"The shadow cabinet will ensure transparency and accountability and act as a watchdog over overall activities."
A shadow cabinet is a structure typically formed by the principal opposition party in parliament, led by the opposition leader and comprising senior members.
It functions as an alternative to the sitting cabinet, with each shadow minister assigned to scrutinise the work of a corresponding government minister and propose alternative policies where necessary.
In the 12 February national polls, the BNP-led alliance secured 212 seats, while the Jamaat-led alliance won 77. The remaining seats went to independent candidates and several other parties.
