11-party alliance MPs-elect to skip oath over BNP stance on Constitution Reform Council
The oath-taking ceremony for NCP’s newly elected MPs has been scheduled for 12pm this afternoon.
The Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami-led 11-party alliance will not be sworn in as lawmakers after the Bangladesh Nationalist Party declined to take oath as members of the Constitutional Reform Council, said NCP spokesperson Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain in a Facebook post today (17 February).
The move comes after BNP's decision not to have its MPs sworn in as members of the Constitutional Reform Council.
Speaking to Prothom Alo, Narayanganj-4 MP-elect Abdullah Al Amin said around 11am today (17 February), "We are thinking about not taking the oath as BNP MPs are not taking the oath as members of the Constitutional Reform Council. However, we do not want to say anything final on the matter right now."
The oath-taking ceremony for the National Citizen Party's newly elected MPs was scheduled for 12pm this afternoon.
Joint Convener Monira Sharmin said six lawmakers had already reached the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban to attend the programme, adding that they "may not take the oath" in light of the BNP's decision regarding the Constitutional Reform Council.
