National polls: Preparations completed in Ctg; ballot papers to reach polling officials tomorrow
Chattogram has a total of 6,682,517 voters, including 3,483,887 men, 3,198,560 women and 70 transgender voters
The Election Commission has completed all preparations for the 13th national election in Chattogram, with ballot papers and election materials already delivered to the offices of assistant returning officers in all 16 constituencies.
By tomorrow (10 February), the day before voting, these materials will be distributed to presiding and polling officers.
Law enforcement personnel have also been deployed across the district.
Senior District Election Officer Mohammad Bashir Ahmed told The Business Standard that all logistical preparations had been finalised, with ballot papers and other essential materials dispatched in advance.
According to election officials, 115 candidates are contesting in the 16 constituencies. Chattogram has a total of 6,682,517 voters, including 3,483,887 men, 3,198,560 women and 70 transgender voters.
Voting will take place at 1,965 polling centres, comprising 12,601 polling booths, with one presiding officer assigned to each centre.
In the previous parliamentary election held on 7 January 2024, the number of polling centres was 2,023, while the voter count stood at 6,314,317.
Training for polling officials concluded on 8 February, with separate sessions for presiding officers, assistant presiding officers and polling agents, covering voting procedures, ballot management and result transmission.
Three returning officers have been appointed for the Chattogram constituencies. Divisional Commissioner Md Ziauddin is overseeing 5 city and adjoining seats, Deputy Commissioner Md Zahidul Islam Miah is responsible for 10 district seats, while Regional Election Officer Mohammad Belayet Hossain Chowdhury is in charge of 1 city constituency.
Polling centres have been categorised based on risk assessments, and centre-specific security plans have been finalised. Members of the army, police, Rapid Action Battalion, Border Guard Bangladesh and Ansar will be deployed, with additional measures at centres identified as high risk.
