Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman secured a lead over his rival BNP candidate Safiqul Islam Milton in the Dhaka-15 constituency, according to Election Commission sources.
Meanwhile, Milton, in a Facebook post on his verified page, has implied that he has won the polls.
In Dhaka-15, as of 7:50pm yesterday (12 February), after the results of 120 polling centres, the Jamaat chief held 77,167 votes while Milton held 57,988 votes.
Initially, many posts were seen on social media, primarily on Facebook, claiming that the Jamaat ameer had won. Some media outlets also published reports on this without due diligence citing those Facebook posts.
Shortly after, BNP candidate Safiqul Islam Milton posted on his Facebook page saying, "Alhamdulillah, Dhaka-15". After that, many people shared his post or posted with references to his post.
Meanwhile, Dhaka-13 polls turned into a hotbed of confusion as BNP-backed Bobby Hajjaj and Jamaat-supported 11-party alliance nominee Mamunul Haque were battling it out in a razor-thin contest.
With full results yet to be officially announced, the constituency is brimming with anxious supporters trying to make sense of the count.
