Former Algerian president Liamine Zeroual passes away at 84

The Embassy of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria in Dhaka has announced with deep sorrow the death of former president Mujahid Liamine Zeroual on Saturday (28 March). He was 84.
Zeroual served as Algeria's sixth president from 1994 to 1999, guiding the nation through a critical period and voluntarily stepping down in the interest of democratic principles.
He is remembered for his leadership during challenging times and for his efforts in strengthening Algeria's international relations, including the longstanding ties with Bangladesh.
The Algerian Embassy in Dhaka has opened a condolence book at its premises at House 06, Road 13, Baridhara Diplomatic Zone, Dhaka-1212.
The book was available today (31 March) from 2pm to 6pm, and will remain open from 1 to 2 April between 10am and 6pm.
Members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of international organizations, and distinguished guests have visited the Embassy to pay tribute to the late president.
The Embassy expressed its deepest condolences and thanked the Bangladesh government, diplomatic missions, and friends of Algeria for their solidarity during this period of mourning.
