Dr Dhipra's death: Case against husband, 3 others withdrawn
Complainant says he withdrew the case after learning that some information behind the allegations was incorrect.
A case filed over physician Nafisa Tabassum Dhipra's death was withdrawn today (19 August) after complainant Moshiur Rahman Shah said he discovered that some of the information behind the allegations was incorrect.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Rana passed the withdrawal order following an application by the complainant.
On 16 June, Moshiur filed the case against Dhipra's husband Dr Rahmat Rashid, father-in-law Dr Mohammad Abdur Rashid, mother-in-law Siddika Sultana and Earki's editor Shimu Naser, along with several unidentified people.
The case alleged that Dhipra's death was caused by negligence and that she had been subjected to physical and mental abuse by her family after marriage.
It accused the defendants of neglecting her necessary treatment and care, concealing evidence by burying her without a post-mortem examination, and keeping her locked in a room for three days before her death on 4 June without food or access to her two-year-old son.
The court later ordered the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to investigate the allegations.
In his withdrawal application, Moshiur said he had filed the case after learning about Dhipra's death through social media as part of his social responsibility.
He said Dhipra's father Alauddin later met him and informed him about the circumstances surrounding the case.
Moshiur then became aware that some of the information in the case was factually incorrect, according to the withdrawal application.
He also said he learned from other sources that Dhipra had died of cardiac arrest and subsequently sought withdrawal of the case.
