Taijul wasted no time, striking with the very first delivery of the morning to dismiss Blessing Muzarabani.

Zimbabwe appeared in control during the first two sessions of the opening day, but a dramatic collapse in the final session saw them stumble from 177 for 2 to 227 for 9 by stumps. Taijul Islam played a starring role, claiming five wickets to derail the visitors' innings.

Play resumed in Chattogram with Bangladesh beginning their first innings in response to Zimbabwe's 227. The hosts introduced a new opening pair as Shadman Islam walked out alongside Anamul Haque.
