Singapore to host dance theatre masterclass by Pooja Sengupta

Bangladeshi choreographer and researcher Pooja Sengupta has been invited as a Visiting Fellow at Singapore Raffles Music College (SRMC) to lead a two-day Dance Theatre Masterclass on her innovative production approach.
Sengupta is the creator of several original dance-theatre works, including 'Waterness', 'Anamika Sagorkonna', and others.
Beyond performance, she focuses her research on community-rooted dance traditions in Bangladesh, conducting detailed documentation and analysis of specific practices, such as the tea-garden workers' dances in Sreemangal and the festival 'Aroti/Dhunochi' forms. Her work aims to highlight overlooked narratives within these rural and urban contexts.
She has previously delivered masterclasses, workshops, performances, research presentations and talks at Bangkok University, Beijing Dance Academy, Capital Normal University (Beijing), Northwest Normal University (China), Dance Xchange Philippines, Herzen State University (St Petersburg), and at festivals in Indonesia, the Philippines, India, Thailand, South Korea and Vietnam.
'This opportunity is a testament to the growing global interest in South Asian and Bangladeshi dance traditions,' said Sengupta. 'I am honoured to represent Turongomi and Bangladesh, and I look forward to a meaningful exchange with students and faculty in Singapore.'
Turongomi champions original Bangladeshi dance theatre internationally through collaborations, performances, and academic initiatives.
