'How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days' sequel in the works at Paramount
A sequel to the 2003 rom-com is in early development, with hopes of bringing Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey back together.
A sequel to the beloved 2003 romantic comedy How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days is in early development at Paramount, with original star Kate Hudson attached as a producer. According to Variety, the project is still in its early stages, with no cast, director or screenwriter confirmed yet. The filmmakers and the studio reportedly hope to bring back Hudson and her original co-star Matthew McConaughey, though their involvement will depend on the eventual creative direction of the sequel.
Hudson will produce alongside Stacey Sher through her Shiny Penny banner. Sher's producing credits include Pulp Fiction, Gattaca, Erin Brockovich, Vanilla Sky and Django Unchained.
Plot details for the sequel are yet to be revealed. The original film followed magazine columnist Andie Anderson, played by Hudson, and advertising executive Benjamin Barry, played by McConaughey, whose competing dating schemes unexpectedly led to genuine romance.
Directed by Donald Petrie, the film grossed nearly $180 million worldwide against a reported $50 million budget and has since become a defining rom-com of the 2000s.
The sequel arrives amid a growing wave of Y2K nostalgia in Hollywood, with several late 1990s and early 2000s franchises returning to the big screen in recent years. Hudson was most recently seen in the 2025 film Song Sung Blue, which earned her a second Oscar nomination. McConaughey, meanwhile, has largely stayed away from romantic comedies over the past decade after becoming closely associated with the genre through films such as How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.
While neither star has officially signed on to reprise their roles, Variety reported that the intention is to reunite the pair for the long-awaited follow-up.
