Love can take many forms, but in Pabna a couple’s love has taken the shape of a beautiful and inspiring rooftop garden.

Dr Monwarul Aziz and Dr Tahsin, a respected physician couple, developed a unique rooftop mini-park with trees, herbs and ornamental plants in their free time.

Inspired by their endeavour, neighbours of Dr Monwarul Aziz and Dr Tahsin and many others in their town became interested in developing garden in their own rooftops. The couple welcomes everyone, who seeks advice and cooperation regarding developing a plan for a rooftop garden.

Dr Monwarul Aziz and Dr Tahsin see their patients at home. During their visits, patients of the two prominent physicians relax and enjoy in the rooftop garden while waiting. Their patients leave with a newfound passion for green living and advises concerning rooftop gardening.

Recalling the beginning of her journey as a gardener, Dr Tahsin said, “My father had a passion for plants. He had collected many rare species from all around Bangladesh. After his death, I started looking after his plants.”

Dr Tahsin later injected her passion for gardening into Dr Monwarul, her husband, who eventually realized that he also had this knack for green living. After retirement, the couple spends most of their free time looking after their garden.

“It also keeps our body healthy and our mind peaceful,” said Dr Aziz, as he noted that gardening at the community level can keep the surroundings greener, as well.

Dr Tahsin further added that rooftop gardening can meet the nutritional need of a family by providing organic fruits and vegetables.

“Rooftop gardens lower room temperature and play a significant role in maintaining the environmental balance,” she added.

Praising the pioneering role of the couple, Pabna Agricultural Research Institute official Dr Rabiul Alam noted that their rooftop garden has become exemplary for others.
