LGED's CRILIC hosts three-day training on climate finance and resilient project planning

From October 15 to 17, the Center for Resilient Local Infrastructure (CRILIC) of LGED organized a three-day training session on climate finance, project concept notes, and financial proposals. The training, held at the LGED headquarters' training room, was inaugurated by Mohammad Abdul Hakim, Additional Chief Engineer and Director of CRILIC, LGED. In his opening remarks, he expressed gratitude to the participants and highlighted the significance of applying the knowledge gained from the training to the development of climate-related projects by LGED.

Additional Chief Engineer Gopal Krishna Debnath addressed the attendees, noting that this was the first of its kind training at LGED. He spoke about the significant impact of ongoing global climate change on various aspects of life, including water scarcity, food production challenges, extreme heat, and rising sea levels, which may lead to flooding and render many areas uninhabitable. He stressed the need for early preparation and urged participants to learn strategies for building infrastructure resilient to climate changes. Additionally, he acknowledged the efforts of CRILIC and all contributors in preparing the training manuals used during the session.

The training included presentations by several experts, including Md. Jasim Uddin, Superintending Engineer (Planning) of LGED; Md. Abdul Khalek, Project Director of CRIM; Mirza Shawkat Ali, Director (Climate Change and International Convention) of the Department of Environment; and Dr. Fazle Rabbi Sadeque Ahmed, Deputy Managing Director of Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF). The chief trainers were Mahmud Riaz, Senior Institutional Development Specialist of IDC-CRILIC, and Nestor Zapata.

A total of thirty engineers from different levels of LGED participated in the training, which was conducted by Banda Hafiz, Training Specialist at IDC CRILIC.
