Government appoints Javed Karim as LGED Chief Engineer
Engineer Javed Karim has officially assumed office as the Chief Engineer (Routine Duties) of the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED), becoming the 20th to hold the position.
He took charge on Monday, 3 November 2025, following a government notification (No. 46.00.0000.071.12.005.18-877) issued by the Development-1 Branch of the Local Government Division under the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives (LGRD).
Karim succeeds Md Anwar Hossain, who retired on 26 October. The post had remained vacant for ten working days before his appointment.
A senior LGED official said that Karim, previously Additional Chief Engineer (Grade-3), was appointed Chief Engineer (Routine Duties) based on seniority.
Raised in an engineering family, Karim is regarded as a skilled officer with extensive administrative and technical experience. He has led and supervised several key LGED projects that earned recognition for their quality and impact.
Colleagues noted his strong working relationships with development partners, including the World Bank, which they believe will help accelerate the implementation of ongoing and upcoming infrastructure projects.
Many within LGED expressed optimism that his leadership will strengthen project execution and further advance the organisation's contribution to the country's infrastructure development.
