Asif Nazrul advocates strict measures against encroachment of archaeological sites
He assured that strict actions will be taken concerning areas that have been encroached stating, “We are here today to review these matters”
Asif Nazrul, adviser to the Ministry of Culture, has announced that strict measures will be taken to prevent the encroachment of archaeological sites in Bangladesh.
He made these statements during a visit to various archaeological sites, including Idrakpur Fort and Baba Adam Mosque in Munshiganj this morning (27 September).
"It is time for us to oversee the situation regarding the encroachment of archaeological sites. I have been thinking about touring Bangladesh's archaeological sites on Fridays," he said.

He expressed his aspiration to include Lalbagh Fort as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, stressing the need to assess preservation requirements firsthand.
"Without seeing these sites myself, I cannot determine the preservation policies effectively. It is time for us to monitor this issue closely," he added.
Nazrul also pointed out the difficulties in preserving various recovered artifacts, many of which hold national significance.

Accompanying him were officials from the Department of Archaeology, including Afroza Khan Mita, the regional director for Dhaka division.
During the visit, they inspected several historical archaeological sites, including Idrakpur Fort, Baba Adam Mosque, Nateshwar Buddhist Monastery, and Jor Moth.
