Man shot dead in Munshiganj 'amid feud between rival groups'
Tunin's cousin Akash said followers of Mollakandi union BNP leader Ojir Ali and members of Awlad group attacked him from behind
A man was shot dead in Mollakandi union of Munshiganj's Sadar upazila on Sunday night (2 November), reportedly over a dispute between two rival groups.
The deceased was identified as Tuhin Dewan, 22.
The incident took place around 9:30pm in South Beherkandi village under the same union, confirmed Munshiganj Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Feroz Kabir.
Dr Pranto Sardar, emergency department physician at Munshiganj General Hospital, said, "Tuhin was already dead when brought to the hospital. There were multiple bullet wounds on his back and neck."
Tuhin's cousin, Akash Dewan, who claimed to be an eyewitness, said, "Tuhin went out for a walk around 9:30pm. When he reached Munshikandi Government Primary School, individuals led by Liton Bepari — followers of Mollakandi union BNP leader Ojir Ali and members of Awlad group — attacked him from behind. They hurled a crude bomb and opened fire. Tuhin was shot and fell to the ground."
Akash added that Tuhin was a follower of Mollakandi union BNP President Wahid Molla and BNP leader Atik Mallik. A longstanding rivalry had been ongoing between the two groups over local political dominance, he said.
BNP leaders could not be reached immediately for a comment over the matter.
ASP Feroz Kabir said, "The exact cause of the incident is yet to be confirmed. The matter will become clear after investigation. Additional police have been deployed in the area to maintain order."
