Khurshid Alam appointed Islami Bank chairman
The appointment comes hours after Zubaidur Rahman resigns
Bangladesh Bank has appointed Md Khurshid Alam as the new chairman of Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC, hours after M Zubaidur Rahman resigned from the post.
The central bank confirmed the appointment in a letter signed by its Director Md Alauddin yesterday (24 May).
Khurshid Alam was appointed deputy governor of Bangladesh Bank in February 2024 on a three-year contractual term.
However, following the fall of the Awami League government in August 2024, he and four other senior central bank officials stepped down from their positions.
Earlier in the day, Zubaidur Rahman submitted his resignation letter to the Bangladesh Bank governor.
Zubaidur had been serving as chairman of the bank since 23 July last year.
A board meeting of Islami Bank was scheduled to be held yesterday, but it did not take place amid protests staged by a customer forum.
