Man detained over raping, strangling minor niece to death in Munshiganj
Police today (16 May) detained a man in connection with the rape and subsequent murder by strangulation of his 10-year-old niece in the Khaskandi Madina Para village of Baluchar union in Munshiganj's Sirajdikhan.
The detainee Raja Mia, 35, has been taken into custody as evidence of rape followed by murder has been found on the victim, said Sirajdikhan Police Station Sub-Inspector Md Shah Ali.
According to Saleh Begum, a member of wards 1, 2, and 3 of Baluchar union, tension began to brew among the locals after family members spotted the body of the deceased girl on a bed inside their house and informed the police.

Later, at around 4pm, police recovered the body.
Sirajdikhan Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdul Hannan said the body has been sent to the Munshiganj Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
According to family sources, Raja Mia is the son of the late Akbar Hawlader of Morrelganj Police Station area in Khulna district. He had been living with the victim's family for about six years.
