Protesters block Dhaka-Ctg highway in Munshiganj over re-demarcation of two constituencies
The demonstrators alleged that the government’s decision on delimitation was taken without considering the emotions and aspirations of the local people

Protesters blocked the Dhaka–Chattogram highway in Munshiganj's Gajaria upazila today (7 September), demanding that the Homna–Meghna parliamentary constituency be retained in its previous form.
The demonstration began at 11am with a human chain at Bhaterchar Natun Road under the banner of "Homna–Meghna Constituency Protection Committee."
Afterwards, the protesters moved onto the highway and staged a procession chanting, "We have only one demand: we want the Homna–Meghna constituency."
The blockade caused long tailbacks on both sides of the highway, severely disrupting traffic and causing suffering for passengers.
Gajaria Upazila Nirbahi Officer Ashraful Alam, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Hamida Mostafa, and Officer-in-Charge Anwar Alam Azad arrived at the scene and persuaded the protesters to withdraw after about an hour.
The demonstrators alleged that the government's decision on delimitation was taken without considering the emotions and aspirations of the local people.

They demanded that the Homna–Meghna constituency be reinstated, arguing that the two upazilas are geographically close and share the same transport network.
BNP Cumilla divisional organising secretary Selim Bhuiyan expressed solidarity with the protest, saying, "This movement is not against any political party or individual; it is about the hopes and aspirations of the common people of Homna–Meghna. I hope the government will fulfil the people's expectations."
Residents from both upazilas joined the human chain and the procession.
The Election Commission has finalised the boundaries for 300 constituencies for the upcoming 13th parliamentary election, which includes changes in Cumilla.
Under the new arrangement, Cumilla-1 will consist of Daudkandi and Meghna, while Cumilla-2 will consist of Homna and Titas. Previously, Cumilla-2 comprised Homna and Meghna.
