At least 30 factories in Ashulia closed amid protest  

At least 30 readymade garment factories in Ashulia on Sunday suspended operations as workers continued to protest, pressing various demands.

Industrial Police-1 Superintendent Sarwar Alam said most factories in the area remained normal until 11am, except for The New Age Group and Al Muslim Group, among a few other factories. Workers at The New Age Group and Al Muslim Group left their workplaces around 8:45am, shortly after starting their shifts at 8am. 

He said some factories were forced to close as negotiations between owners and workers were not fruitful. By 12:30pm, the majority of factories in the area were still operational.   

After the declaration of a general holiday in some factories, unrest spread to others in the area. However, no incidents of violence or clashes were reported by Sunday evening, and the majority of factories continued their operations.

Sources at the industrial police said some factories were forced to declare holidays as the discussions between the owners and workers were not fruitful.

Workers from at least 20 factories, including Yagi Bangladesh, New Age, Al Muslim, and Generation Next, left the factory premises with various demands.
