'Reconsider punitive measures': Army urges patience as ex-officers file 802 applications, says 106 in final stage

The Bangladesh Army has received over 800 applications from retired officers seeking a reconsideration of punitive measures taken against them.
Of the applications, 106 have been sent for final disposal to the relevant records, while another 699 applications are under the process of disposal, subject to phased scrutiny and evaluation, the Bangladesh Army said in a statement posted on its Facebook page today (14 May).
"Although the matter is time-consuming, the army is working with the utmost sincerity and sense of responsibility," the army said, calling for patience, discipline and tolerance.
"Recently, some former army personnel have filed petitions for reconsideration of the punitive decisions against them, which the Army Headquarters has taken with utmost seriousness. A high-level board has already been formed at the Army Headquarters to properly review all these petitions, taking into account the humanitarian and administrative realities, and the activities of this board are ongoing," the statement reads.
It stated that the contribution of all members of the army in protecting the sovereignty, security and stability of the country is undeniable, and the nation remembers it with gratitude.
It also said the government and the Bangladesh Army have the utmost respect for the honour, dignity and just demands of the former army members and are committed to taking positive steps.
"The Bangladesh Army believes that every problem can be resolved peacefully only through mutual respect, sympathy and following due process. In this regard, all concerned are being called upon to refrain from any kind of negative activities. At the same time, advice is being given to maintain patience, discipline and tolerance in any situation," reads the statement.
The statement also mentioned that the Bangladesh Army has achieved its glorious tradition through long-standing professionalism, relentless hard work and discipline. "The unquestioning loyalty, honesty and sacrifice of every member of this force are the main foundation of today's success. Military discipline is the main driving force of a professional army. In order to maintain military discipline, there are provisions for appropriate rewards and punishments as per the army law."
