The North South University Board of Trustees has assigned Professor Abdur Rab Khan the responsibility of acting Vice-Chancellor following its emergency meeting on August 28.

It should be noted that after the fall of the dictatorial Sheikh Hasina government on August 5th in the face of anti-discrimination student movement, so called Sheikh Kamal's friend and former Chattra League leader Vice-Chancellor Professor Atiqul Islam has been absconding since noon on August 6th, even he is not available in his resident provided by the university authority. Apart from this, due to the vice chancellor's opposition role against recent student movement a large section of students have been adamant in demanding his resignation for the last few weeks. In this situation, a kind of deadlock has been created in North South University.

The board has expressed significant concern about the continuity of the University's activities in the absence of the Vice-Chancellor in this challenging situation, especially the academic and administrative activities of the institution are being disrupted.

Professor Abdur Rab Khan will serve as Acting Vice-Chancellor in addition to his current Treasurer role until further notice. After the assumption of charge of Mr. Abdur Rob, the normal activities of the university have returned and the academic activities of the university are going to start soon. The change of this critical role of the educational institution is unanimously accepted and approved by the Board of Trustees.

It is to mention that there are allegations against former VC Atiqul of misappropriation of university funds and being an illegal trustee.
