The High Court has stayed bail granted to Farmers Bank's former director Rashedul Haque Chisty in two cases filed over money laundering and amassing illegal wealth.

Rashed is the son of Mahbubul Haque Chisty, former chairman of the bank's audit committee.

The High Court bench of Justice Jahangir Hossain Selim gave the order after virtually hearing a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Wednesday seeking a stay on the bail granted to Rashedul only a day ago.

The High Court set May 28 for further hearing on the petition, said ACC lawyer Khurshid Alarm Khan.

On Tuesday, Dhaka Special Judge's Court and Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court granted bail to Rashed in two cases filed over laundering around Tk400 crore of illegally amassed wealth. Both hearings were conducted at virtual courts.

The ACC had filed a number of cases against Mahbubul Haque Chisty, his son Rashedul Haque Chisty and a few other members of his family over allegations of graft.

Rashed is currently in jail after his arrest in 2018.
