KMCH confirms Jashore’s first coronavirus case

Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) on Sunday afternoon confirmed Jashore's first positive case of coronavirus.

This is also the first positive coronavirus case reported by KMCH since the hospital started operating the Polymar chain reaction (PCR) machine to test samples of suspected patients.

The patient, a 30-year-old male health official, works at Jashore's Monirampur Upazila Health Complex.

"His samples were sent to KMCH for coronavirus test on Wednesday (April 8) as he had symptoms of the virus," a doctor of KMCH, unwilling to be named, told The Business Standard.

The patient is currently undergoing treatment at Jessore Chest Disease Hospital, Monirampur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Ahsan Ullah Sharifi said.

He also said that authorities have locked down his house, as well as his in-laws' house, both in Monirampur upazila.

KMCH tested 159 samples so far. Among them, all except one came negative.

Bangladesh today confirmed four more deaths from the novel coronavirus and new cases of infection jumped to 139 in the country.

With this, the death toll rises to 34 from the virus and a total of 621 people are infected so far.
