Handwash challenge to prevent the spread of coronavirus

The UNDP, Bangladesh Scouts, Dettol Harpic Porichchonno Bangladesh, and Duronto Television have jointly organised an online competition – Handwash Challenge – to prevent the spread of the coronavirus (Covid-19). 

The online competition aims teaching on how to curb the spread of the pandemic while at home. 

Everyone can take part in this online competition from home. Ten people can win the competition each day by washing hands with soap or handwash for at least 20 seconds, and sharing pictures and videos of it. Winners will later be given interesting prizes.

To participate in the Handwash Challenge first, one needs to send a photo or video of washing hands via Facebook Messenger and upload it on their Facebook Wall. The privacy of the Facebook post must be made public and #WashHandsBeatCorona and #StayatHome must be used in the post. 

The participant also has to nominate and tag two friends on Facebook and invite them to take part in the challenge. Children will also be able to participate in the competition. In this case, elders can assist them by teaching them to properly wash hands. "The closure of educational institutions does not mean that students should stop learning. I urge parents to ensure that students continue their studies from home and not leave home. Staying home in this state is an important task in safeguarding the country. It would not be fair to make any concessions on this issue. It is our mission to make students and the general public aware," said Md Abul Kalam Azad, former chief coordinator of SDGs, prime minister secretariat and president of Bangladesh Scouts.

Khurshid Alam, an assistant resident representative of UNDP, urged parents to encourage their children to participate in the competition and empower them to develop new ideas and innovation. He also urged to ensure the mental and physical well-being of children during the holidays by engaging them in various life-oriented educations. She hopes that by participating in this competition, children will be encouraged to stay healthy and safe by following all health restrictions.

Salahuddin Tareq, the chief coordinator of Dettol Harpic Porichchonno Bangladesh, said, "Our security is in our hands. You and your family need to be protected by cleaning your hands following the proper rules at home. So, unless it is solely required, let's all stay at home and make everyone in the family aware of frequent hand washing. " 

Cardiologist Dr Hasina Banu said, "Without emergent needs, no one should come out of the house. Wash hands thoroughly (at least 20 seconds) with soap (detergent is better). It should also be ensured that we do not waste water while washing hands. "

Md Ali Haider, Duranto Television head of programmer said, "Currently, we are trying to do everything from our perspectives. Hopefully, Bangladesh will return to normal soon. "
