Thakurgaon bus collision leaves 8 people dead

A tragic road accident killed eight people and injured 24 others on Dinajpur-Thakurgaon highway on Friday morning.

Witnesses and police sources said, the accident happened around 9am on Friday.

The injured were taken to Rangpur Medical College Hospital and Thakurgaon Adhunik Sadar Hospital.

Witnesses said, a bus of ‘Dipjol Paribahan’ was going from Dhaka to Thakurgaon while another minibus of ‘Nishat Paribahan’ was going from Thakurgaon to Dinajpur.

They collided head on at Balaka Picnic Spot in Khocabari Haat of Jagannathpur union in Thakurgaon Sadar upazila.

The driver of the minibus Chaina (35) and four other passengers died on the spot.

Two other injured men died when they were being taken to Thakurgaon Hospital and another died on the way to Rangpur Medical College.

Officer in Charge (OC) of Thakurgaon Police Station Md Ashikur Rahman said, there were five women and three men among the dead.

The deceased were identified as Bipul Chandra (35) from Baliadangi upazila, Abdur Rahman (45) and her wife Fatema Begum (40), Mangli Rani (70), Joba Roy (35)  and Abdul Mazid (36) from Birganj upazila in Dinajpur.

Station Master of Thakurgaon Fire Service Mafidar Rahman said, police and rescuers from fire service went to the accident site within 20 minutes when they were informed.

Body of the deceased were taken to Thakurgaon Genaral Hospital and Rangpur.
