Rajshahi Metropolitan Detective Police detained seven people while they were dividing up bribe money amounting to eight lakh thirty thousand takas, as well as USD 7,000, amongst themselves.

The police also recovered a loaded pistol from them.

The police raided the house of Revenue Customs Officer Ayub Ali, who was removed from his position at the land port of Sona Mosque Wednesday midnight.

The arrested, alongside Ali, were identified as Abu Sayed Noyon, Ahsanul Kabir Mithu, Monirul Islam Jewel, Bayezid Hossain, Abdul Mannan, and Abdul Malik.

They are all Clearing and Forwarding agents of the port and have been taken to the detective branch of police for further interrogation.

Upon sensing police presence, they tried leaving the house with the money and pistol and were immediately arrested.

Boalia Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Nibaran Chandra Barman said that the seized pistol and money have been kept in the police station.

On the night of the incident, two freight-laden trucks from India belonging to one of the arrestees Monirul Islam Jewel entered the country from which the government is expected to receive approximately Tk 80 lakh in duties.

However, they evaded paying around Tk 20 lakh and hurriedly transferred the goods to a Bangladeshi truck.

Tipped off, Detective and Boalia police launched the raid at Ayub Ali’s house.
