At least nine people were killed and 20 others injured in two separate road accidents in Phulpur and Tarakanda upazilas of Mymensingh today (20 June).

According to police, all victims were passengers of the Mahindra vehicle. Their identities have not been obtained yet.

Earlier in the day, around 5:30pm, another accident occurred in the Ramchandrapur area of Tarakanda upazila where a head-on collision between an ambulance and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in front of the 'Himalay Filling Station' claimed three lives.

An elderly woman and a child died on the spot, while the auto-rickshaw driver succumbed to injuries later at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.

The deceased were identified as Jabeda Khatun, 85, of Baratia village in Dhobaura; Rakibul Hasan, 15, of Madipur Sutarpara in Phulpur; and Mohammad Alam, the CNG driver from Shuilam Budhbariya village in Ghagra union of Mymensingh Sadar.

Md Shafiqul Islam, in charge of the police camp at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, confirmed that four more people injured in the crash were receiving treatment in the hospital's surgery and orthopedics wards.

Tarakanda Police Station OC Tipu Sultan said the ambulance, which belongs to the Haluaghat Upazila Health Complex, was not carrying any patient at the time of the accident.

The driver fled the scene immediately after the incident, he added.

Police have kept the bodies of the woman and the child at the local police station while the CNG driver's body is at the Mymensingh Medical College morgue.
