5 killed, 20 injured as bus rams into parked covered van in Chattogram

At least five people were killed and 20 others injured after a bus rammed into a stationary covered van in Chattogram's Sitakunda this evening (16 November).
The incident occurred around 6:15pm on Dhaka-Chattogram highway at Battala area of the district, Sitakunda Model Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Md Alamgir said.
Among the deceased, three have been identified as Md Shah Alam, 55, from Cumilla, Police constable Md Kamal, 45, from Feni and Md Joshim, 30, from Chattogram.
The identities of the other deceased could not be known immediately.
Kumira Highway Police In-Charge Md Zakir Rabbani said, "The accident occurred when a Chattogram-bound bus lost control, collided with a parked covered van, and fell into a roadside ditch."
Following the crash, Sitakunda Fire Service and Kumira Highway Police rushed to the scene to rescue victims, he added.
According to police, four people died on the spot, while one more died at the hospital after being taken there. Of the remaining 20 injured, 12 received primary treatment and were discharged.
Legal action is being taken in connection with the accident.
