A land office official in Satkhira was caught red-handed attempting to hide bribe money during a sudden raid conducted by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) this afternoon (27 May).

The ACC operation targeted the Nagorghata Union Land Office following allegations of routine bribery and misconduct.

During the raid, Assistant Union Land Officer Abdul Mukit was seen hurriedly stashing bribe money inside and beneath a dustbin upon noticing the arrival of ACC officials.

Speaking to reporters, Mahmudul Hasan Shuvro, assistant director of the Khulna ACC office, said, "We have found concrete evidence of bribery. A report will be prepared and submitted to ACC headquarters for further instructions."

"The deputy commissioner and assistant commissioner (land) have also been informed of the findings," he added.

According to ACC, Mukit had been allegedly collecting illegal payments from service recipients for routine tasks such as land tax collection and mutation report issuance — transactions that are supposed to be processed free of extra charges under government directives.

ACC officials recovered the hidden cash during the raid and also seized a notebook that reportedly contained the names of individuals from whom bribes had been collected. These items have been preserved as evidence.

According to media reports, this is not the first time Abdul Mukit has been accused of corruption. He was previously stationed at the Islamkati Union Land Office in Tala upazila, from where he was transferred after a Jamuna Television investigation exposed his involvement in similar bribery practices.
