Allegations have been raised against two classmates of a female student at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) for raping her after rendering her unconscious and filming nude videos.

Based on these allegations, police detained the two accused students last night (19 June).

They are Shanto Tara Adnan and Swagata Das Partha, both from the 2021-22 session in SUST's Department of Social Sciences.

Later, the female student filed a case with Kotwali Police Station against five people this afternoon (20 June).

Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Ziaur Haque said Adnan and Partha have been named as accused in the case along with three other unidentified persons. Adnan and Partha have now been shown arrested in the case, he added.

The survivor female student had also filed a written complaint of rape to the SUST proctor yesterday afternoon. Meanwhile, students from that batch have issued a statement demanding maximum punishment for the two accused students.

"On Thursday afternoon, a female student of the university complained about molestation. Based on the complaint, we have found the incident to be true. Currently, the criminals are in police custody, and the legal process regarding the case is ongoing," said Proctor Prof Mokhlesur Rahman.

According to the survivor student's complaint and university disciplinary body sources, the female student was going to a concert in the city with her classmates Shanto and Swagata on the evening of 2 May.

Before going to the concert, they took the female student to a hostel in the Surma area. At that time, Shanto and Swagata allegedly rendered the victim student unconscious and raped her.

The duo allegedly filmed videos of the crime and took nude photos of her. Later, showing those videos and photos, they allegedly blackmailed her regularly and threatened to release them online if she told anyone about the incident.

However, the student complained to the proctor yesterday afternoon, prompting Mokhlesur to immediately inform the police.

Later, police detained the two students and brought them to the proctor's office. After a discussion with the proctor, the police took them into custody.

Regarding this, OC Ziaur Haque said, "One of the two accused students was held from the campus and the other from the Surma residential area. They have been taken into police custody for now, on the instructions of the university authorities. However, no case has been filed yet."

Meanwhile, SUST Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof Md Sajedul Karim said, "Whatever steps need to be taken from the administration's side are being taken."
