11-year-old girl rape in Netrokona, case filed against madrasah teacher
The examining physician said the pregnancy poses serious medical risks due to the girl’s age and physical condition.
An 11-year-old madrasah student has become pregnant after allegedly being raped in Netrokona's Madan upazila.
Police said a case was filed on 30 April, but the accused teacher of the madrasah has yet to be arrested, reports Prothom Alo.
The officer-in-charge of Madan Police Station, Md Tariqul Islam, said, "I have been here for only two days. I have learned that such a case has been filed. Operations to arrest the accused are ongoing."
According to locals, the first information report (FIR), and police sources, the accused, Aman Ullah, established a women's Qawmi madrasah in the area four years ago, where the girl studied while staying at her maternal grandfather's house.
Family members alleged that on 2 November last year, after classes ended for the day, Aman called the child and asked her to sweep the mosque adjacent to the madrasah.
After other teachers and students had left, he summoned her into a room, threatened her, and raped her, family members alleged.
He also allegedly threatened to kill the girl, her mother, and her younger siblings if she disclosed the assault.
The girl was raped multiple times in this manner, according to her family.
The incident came to light recently after the girl began feeling unwell and experiencing physical changes.
Her mother, who works in Sylhet as a domestic help, returned home and questioned her daughter, eventually learning about the incident.
On 18 April, the girl was taken to a clinic in Madan upazila town, where tests confirmed that she was pregnant.
Following this, her mother filed a case at the police station on 30 April.
Dr Sayma Akter, the examining physician, said, "The child came to the clinic with her mother. She said her abdomen felt heavy and that something inside was moving. After examination, we found she is about seven months pregnant."
"When I repeatedly asked her, 'Who did this to you?', there was fear on her face. She only said, 'The teacher did this,'" the doctor added.
Sayma said the pregnancy poses serious medical risks due to the girl's age and physical condition.
"The 11-year-old is less than four and a half feet tall and weighs only 29 kilograms. The foetal biparietal diameter is 74 millimetres, which is significantly larger than the child's pelvic size," she said.
"Her haemoglobin level is only 8.2. A normal delivery is not possible due to the mismatch between the narrow pelvis and the foetus's head size, posing a severe risk to both mother and child. Determining anaesthesia dosage for a caesarean section in such a small child is also a major challenge."
The girl's mother said this morning (4 May), "My husband left me. I struggle to raise my three sons and one daughter. I work as a domestic help in Sylhet to survive. I left my daughter at my paternal home and sent her to the madrasah for education with great difficulty."
"I never imagined in my worst dreams that the teacher would do something so monstrous to my child. I want exemplary punishment for him," she said.
Attempts to contact the accused teacher on his mobile phone several times were unsuccessful, as the line was found switched off, reports Prothom Alo.
It has been learned that after the incident came to light on 18 April, the teacher fled his home along with his wife and children.
