A man has reportedly committed suicide in Patkelghata thana of Satkhira's Kalaroa upazila two days after killing his younger brother over a land-related dispute.

The deceased was identified as Shahjahan Ali, son of Majid Mallik of Jaganandakati village.

"The body of Shahjahan was recovered from an orchard in Khordo Batra area of the upazila around 9am today," said Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kalaroa Police Station Mir Khairul Kabir, adding that, "It is suspected that he committed suicide by hanging himself."

Patkelghata Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kazi Wahid Murshed said that there has been a long-standing dispute between the two brothers over a piece of land.

He said, "During a brawl on 7 March, Shahjahan stabbed his younger brother Mostafa Mallik with a sharp weapon, who later died on the way to hospital. 

Marufa Akter, wife of the deceased, filed a case against Shahjahan Ali and seven others in this regard, said the OC Kazi Wahid adding that the case is under PBI investigation.
