Bangladesh Mahila Parishad along with prominent citizens of the country has expressed deep concerns over recent incidents of rape and sexual violence against women in various places across the country.

They have asked for proper steps to arrest the culprits within the shortest possible time and award them with exemplary punishment along with assurance of security to the victims and their family members.

In a press statement, they said the government has announced death sentence as the highest penalty against rapists as well as some other steps. But the situation seems not to have changed, they added.

Given the situation, Bangladesh Mahila Parishad has come up with some recommendations for the ministry concerned to prevent rape and all other violence against women and daughters.

The organisation has asked for ensuring punishment to rapists through speedy trials and making sure that rape victims could not be married to rapists.

An incident of rape could not be dissolved through arbitration and the culture of blaming the victim women and children has to be stopped, they added.

They also demanded that victims and their family members are given security, while the state provides financial and social protection to the victims.
