Justice served: Man sentenced to death for disabled teen's rape in Faridpur, victim to get Tk5 lakh

A court in Faridpur today (21 July) sentenced Md Nuruddin Molla, 57, to death for the rape of a 13-year-old girl with physical and mental disabilities.
Justice Shamima Parvin, the District and Sessions Judge of the Faridpur Women and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal, delivered the verdict with the accused present in court. In addition to the death penalty, the court imposed a fine of Tk5 lakh.
The judgment specifies that the District Collector will sell Molla's land and property to provide this sum to the victim. Following the ruling, the accused was remanded to jail custody.
According to the First Information Report (FIR), the incident occurred on the afternoon of 23 September 2023, when the child's father left their home in Kosha Gopalpur, Kanaipur Union, Sadar Upazila, for the city. The physically and mentally disabled child was alone at home at that time.
Nuruddin Molla, a neighbour, then raped the child. The girl's cousin witnessed the act through a window, prompting Molla to flee immediately. Neighbours subsequently rescued the child and admitted her to Faridpur Medical College Hospital.
The child's father then filed a rape case at Faridpur Kotwali Police Station.
Regarding the verdict, Advocate Golam Rabbani Bhuiyan Ratan, Public Prosecutor for the Faridpur Women and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal, confirmed the death sentence and the Tk5 lakh fine to be paid to the victim through the sale of the accused's property.
He stated that the prosecution was pleased with the verdict, believing that the court had delivered the highest possible justice.
