A Cox’s Bazar court on Tuesday granted bail to 96 pirates who surrendered to law enforcement agencies in the hope of returning to normal life

96 pirates secured bail in Cox’s Bazar court 

A Cox's Bazar court on Tuesday granted bail to 96 pirates who surrendered to law enforcement agencies in the hope of returning to normal life. 

District and Sessions court Judge Mohammad Ismail granted them bail on Tuesday.

According to court sources, they will be released from Cox's Bazar District Jail on today (Wednesday) if there is no other case against them.

Confirming the bail of the pirates, Cox's Bazar District and Sessions Judge's Court Public Prosecutor (PP) Advocate Faridul Alam said the pirates surrendered to law enforcement in the presence of the Home Minister in Maheshkhali on 23 November, 2019 through the mediation of journalist Akram Hossain.

At that time, the government promised all kinds of assistance to these pirates in the hope of returning to normal life.

Following this, the court granted them bail on Tuesday afternoon after completing legal process.

The pirates who were granted bail were Ayub Ali, chief of Ayub Bahini in Maheshkhali and 14 others including Abu Shama, second in command, Ziaur Rahman Zia, chief of Zia Bahini in Kalarmarchhara, Manik, Ayatollah, Abdus Shukur, Sirip Mia, Ekram and Bashir.

Chief of Kala Jahangir Bahini Jahangir Alam, known as a follower of Kalamarchhara Union Chairman Tareq Sharif,  and it's members Abul, Sona Mia and other members of Jamir Uddin Bahini.

Mohammad Ali, chief of Mahmudullah Bahini in Nunachhari, Maheshkhali, 15 others including second-in-command Badaiya, Siraj-ud-Daulah, chief of Siraj Bahini in Jhapua, Mujibur Rahman Prakash Sheikh Mujib, chief of Mujib Bahini in Nalbila and Pichchi Kalu, chief of Kalu Bahini in Lemshikhali of Kutubdia and others. 

Cox's Bazar District Bar General Secretary Ziauddin Ahmed, Legal Aid lawyers Moktar Ahmed, Selim Uddin Raju, Rahmat Ullah, Rabiul Hossain, Mosharraf Hossain Titu, Nur Soltan, Nurul Huda and at least 15 other lawyers were present on behalf of the accused.

Earlier, on 23 November 2019, 96 pirates of 12 pirate gang including arms and ammunition surrendered to the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in the presence of the Home Minister at the ground of Kalarmarchhara Government Primary School in Maheshkhali, Cox's Bazar. 

At that time, the pirates deposited 155 home-made firearms and 273 rounds of ammunition
