Marking late Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayor Anisul Haque's 3rd death anniversary, present DNCC Mayor Md Atiqul Islam paid homage to him placing wreath at his grave at Banani Cemetery in the capital on Monday morning, says a press release.

Besides, prayers and milad mahfil were organised at Gulshan Nagar Bhaban in DNCC at 2 pm. DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam virtually joined the event as he was ill.

Addressing the milad mahfil, he said, "I have lost a colleague, I have lost a man, a man who realizes his own dreams. And the townspeople have lost a man who believes in words and deeds."

"Anis Bhai started a lot of challenging works which he could not finish. We all from the city corporation want to get those works done as soon as possible. One of his projects was U-turn. It will end this December. There are many such projects.

"I will just say that what Anis Bhai did, he did for others, for the people of the city, not for himself.  The Prime Minister gave him the responsibility of the city and as long as he was alive, he thought about this city, always. He did not even think about his own body. It was a huge responsibility which Anis Bhai undertook," said Atiqul Islam, adding now it has fallen upon me to be completed.

He said it is very difficult to maintain the level and quality of works set by Anis Bhai in administering the city corporation. Nevertheless, I pray to Allah so that we, me and all the councilors and corporation officials, can complete Anis Vai's unfinished job.

The mayor appealed to all, "Let us pray on the third death anniversary of Anis Bhai, so that Allah give us power to turn grief into strength to end what Anis Vai started, to make this city a beautiful city, this is our promise today. "

Md Selim Reza, Chief Executive Officer of DNCC, among others, also attended the mahfil.
