India should refrain from push-ins under cover of darkness: Shama Obaed

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed has expressed hope that the Indian government will refrain from carrying out push-ins under the cover of darkness, stressing that there are established procedures for repatriating individuals identified as illegal nationals of another country.
"We expect the Indian government to follow those procedures. If any Indian nationals are staying illegally in Bangladesh, Bangladesh will return them through proper diplomatic channels and in accordance with international norms," she said while speaking to journalists after inaugurating the Saltha Press Club in Saltha upazila of Faridpur today (12 June).
Referring to recent incidents along the border, she said the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) remains on high alert and that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is working to resolve the issue through diplomatic engagement.
She said Bangladeshi border forces have been preventing attempts to push people into Bangladesh from across the border.
According to Shama, the foreign ministry has already sent 12 to 13 letters to New Delhi urging Indian authorities to stop the push-ins.
She reiterated that any issues involving the return of individuals between the two countries should be addressed through established diplomatic mechanisms and in accordance with agreed procedures.
