NSDA provides Tk10m support to 13 industry skills councils
The National Skills Development Authority (NSDA) has provided office and technical equipment worth around Tk10 million to 13 Industry Skills Councils (ISCs) to strengthen linkages between skills development initiatives and labour market demand.
The support aims to make the national skills development system more industry-driven and labour-market oriented by enhancing the institutional capacity of the Industry Skills Councils. The equipment was procured with assistance from the Accelerating and Strengthening Skills for Economic Transformation Project (ASSET).
The equipment was formally handed over to representatives of the ISCs at a ceremony held at the NSDA conference room today.
The event was graced by M Siraj Uddin Miah, principal secretary to the chief adviser, as the chief guest, and chaired by Dr Nazneen Kawsar Chowdhury, executive chairman (secretary) of the National Skills Development Authority.
In his address, the chief guest said Industry Skills Councils must play a pivotal role in making the skills development system more responsive to labour market needs through active industry participation. He said strengthening the institutional capacity of ISCs would help develop skilled human resources aligned with real industry demand, improve training quality, and create sustainable employment opportunities.
Dr Nazneen Kawsar Chowdhury said NSDA is working to build an integrated and sustainable national skills development ecosystem based on strong industry linkages. She noted that providing office and technical equipment would make ISC operations more dynamic and effective, thereby strengthening sector-based skills standards development, curriculum improvement, and industry-aligned training implementation.
The equipment provided includes desktop and laptop computers, printers, scanners, photocopiers, Wi-Fi routers, multimedia projectors, digital cameras, IPS, UPS, conference sound systems, interactive flat panels, and other essential office and technological tools.
Representatives from the 13 Industry Skills Councils, along with members, directors, and relevant officials of NSDA, were present at the ceremony.
Industry Skills Councils play a key role in identifying sectoral skill demands, developing skills standards and training frameworks, and linking skilled human resources with the labour market. NSDA said the initiative would contribute significantly to strengthening the effectiveness of Bangladesh's industry-linked skills development system.
