Jamaat alleges hacking of ameer's X account originated from govt sources
The Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has alleged that Ameer Shafiqur Rahman's X account "hacking" originated from government office sources.
"Most of the email addresses used in the cyberattacks came from government offices. Even junk mail came from official links. This could be sabotage," said Mahmudur Rahman, a member of Jamaat's Election Management Committee, at a press conference at the party's central office this morning (1 February).
Alleging that such attacks have occurred repeatedly, he said that for the last one month, "we have been victims of many such attacks. Besides the Jamaat ameer, the accounts of Shafiqul Islam Masud and Delwar Hossain have also been attacked."
"The Election Commission has a responsibility in this matter, and they must take strong action," the Jamaat leader said.
The party said they believe that conspirators or sabotage operatives linked to a particular party or its cyber team are involved. Last night, they filed a general diary (GD).
They made a presentation stating that someone had used a government email address as an act of sabotage to send an email to Jamaat's official email ID on 10 January and "various other times over the past month."
The slides showed an email was sent from assistantprogrammer@bangabhaban.gov.bd to info@jamaatdhakacitysouth.org.
The press conference was called after a post from Shafiqur Rahman's X handle started circulating on social media showing remarks on women which sparked outrage.
It reads, "On the question of women, Jamaat's position is neither confused nor apologetic-it is principled. We do not think, women should come in the leadership. In Jamaat, it is impossible. Allah did not permit this."
The now-deleted post further reads, "We believe that when women are pushed out of the home in the name of modernity, they are exposed to exploitation, moral decay, and insecurity. It's nothing but another form of prostitution. Social media vulgarity, workplace harassment, and commodification of women are not signs of progress-they are symptoms of moral collapse.
"We refuse to compromise with immorality, no matter how fashionable it becomes," it says.
The party's central campaign team then issued a statement saying a recent cyberattack targeted the official X handle of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman, along with the social media accounts of several other senior leaders.
In the statement, the team said, "Using a highly sophisticated and coordinated method, the attackers were able to temporarily take control of one social media account.
"However, through swift action and the use of existing security protocols, our cyber team successfully regained control. As a result, no other accounts were compromised, and the security of all remaining platforms has been effectively ensured," the statement reads.
Also speaking at the conference, Jamaat Assistant Secretary General Ehsanul Mahbub Zobayer said, "What Jamaat thinks about women has always been clearly reflected in the statements of the Jamaat ameer. It is not possible to change that through cyberattacks.
"Legal action, along with all other necessary steps, will be taken against such heinous attempts. At the same time, the Election Commission will also be informed about this."
Sirajul Islam, another member of Jamaat's Election Management Committee and former central president of Islami Chhatra Shibir, said, "Not only the Jamaat ameer's X account, but several other pages have been subjected to multiple rounds of cyberattacks in an attempt to take control of those pages."
