BRAC University partners FICAC on international studies
BRAC University has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the World Federation of Consuls (FICAC) to explore cooperation in education, research, development, and knowledge exchange in the field of international studies.
The MoU signing ceremony was held at BRAC University's Merul Badda campus on 31 January, 2026, and the agreement came into effect on 1 February, 2026.
FICAC is an international network of consuls from different countries that serves as a platform for cooperation and communication among its members. The federation supports collaboration in areas such as education, culture, and institutional engagement, enabling members to share experiences, expand international networks, and explore partnerships with universities and organisations worldwide.
Under the MoU, the two institutions agreed to pursue joint academic and scientific activities, including faculty and representative visits, joint seminars, workshops, conferences, and other scholarly events. The agreement also facilitates the exchange of information related to education and research in international studies, promotion of BRAC University's postgraduate programmes in different countries, and engagement of students and alumni with FICAC's initiatives and achievements.
The MoU was signed on behalf of BRAC University by Professor Syed Ferhat Anwar, vice-chancellor; Ariful Islam, treasurer; and Dr David Dowland, registrar. On behalf of FICAC, the agreement was signed by Nikolaos K Margaropoulos, president of FICAC; Aykut Eken, president emeritus of FICAC; and Asif A Chowdhury, vice president of FICAC.
Fatma Gönül Oray-Eken, member of the board of directors of FICAC and honorary consul of St Kitts and Nevis, was also present at the event.
During the ceremony, Dr David Dowland delivered a presentation highlighting BRAC University's academic programmes, research activities, and international engagements. Ariful Islam outlined the university's mission and vision, while Professor Syed Ferhat Anwar reaffirmed BRAC University's commitment to leadership development and collaboration across the Global South.
Following the ceremony, the vice-chancellor gave the visiting delegation a tour of the campus. Members of the delegation expressed appreciation for the university's academic environment, facilities, and educational activities.
