BASIC Bank holds managers conference 2026
BASIC Bank PLC held its Managers Conference 2026 on 31 January 2026 at the Mukti Auditorium of Biddut Bhaban in Dhaka.
The conference was inaugurated by Helal Ahmed Chowdhury, chairman of the board of directors of BASIC Bank PLC, as the chief guest. Md Quamruzzaman Khan, managing director and chief executive officer of the bank, presided over the conference and delivered the welcome address.
Special guests included Sheikh Farid, joint secretary of the Financial Institutions Division, Ministry of Finance, Md Abdul Ahad, former additional secretary, Dr Abu Saleh Mostafa Kamal, former government official (Grade-1), SM Iqbal Hossain, retired banker, all directors of BASIC Bank, and Md Sirajul Islam, executive director of Bangladesh Bank and observer of the BASIC Bank board.
Also present were deputy managing directors Abu Md Mofazzal and Subhash Chandra Das, along with general managers Md Ismail, Md Momenul Hoque, Md Nashir Uddin, Sumit Ranjan Nath, Md Hasan Imam, Md Ghulam Sayeed Khan and Md Saidur Rahman Sohel, as well as branch, sub-branch and divisional in-charges of the bank.
Speaking as the chief guest, chairman Helal Ahmed Chowdhury said BASIC Bank performed better in 2025 compared to 2024, but cautioned against complacency. He stressed that planned and consistent efforts are required to restore the bank's performance and reputation.
He emphasised the need to formulate sound business plans and ensure their effective implementation, strict compliance with all regulatory directives and adherence to the highest standards of ethics. He also called for improving and simplifying customer services and increasing income by turning loss-making branches into profitable ones.
The chairman expressed gratitude to the Financial Institutions Division, Bangladesh Bank and other regulatory authorities for their cooperation.
Special guest Sheikh Farid reviewed the banking sector's current condition and urged stronger measures to recover non-performing loans (NPLs) at BASIC Bank. He stressed preventing new loans from becoming classified, mobilising low-cost deposits and increasing commission and other non-interest income.
Bangladesh Bank executive director Md Sirajul Islam cited examples of banks that successfully recovered from financial distress and expressed optimism about BASIC Bank's turnaround. He highlighted the importance of identifying quality customers, boosting export earnings and strengthening NPL recovery.
Md Abdul Ahad emphasised increasing income and reducing expenditure, alongside strengthening good governance across all levels of the bank. He also suggested expediting legal procedures for recovering defaulted loans. Dr Abu Saleh Mostafa Kamal underscored the importance of continuous compliance with regulatory guidelines while SM Iqbal Hossain highlighted the need to enhance remittance inflows.
In his welcome address, managing director and CEO Md Quamruzzaman Khan urged branch and sub-branch heads to achieve their assigned 2026 targets while strictly adhering to all regulatory rules and guidelines.
The conference also provided branch managers with strategic guidance on various operational aspects. Bank officials said BASIC Bank is gradually moving towards improvement, with its liquidity position remaining strong in both local and foreign currencies.
