PIMA holds AGM, 5th annual banquet in Rupganj
The Print Media Welfare Association (PIMA) successfully held its annual general meeting (AGM) and fifth annual banquet 2026 on Friday at a park in Rupganj.
Working journalists, officers and employees of national daily newspapers and print media organisations gathered at the day-long programme, which was marked by a festive atmosphere and strong participation from PIMA members.
The programme was presided over by PIMA president Md Al Amen, who, in his welcome speech, thanked all members and the picnic organising committee for their sincere efforts in successfully arranging the event.
In his address, the president noted that the current committee's term was nearing its end and invited general members to provide recommendations for the formation of the next committee. In response, members proposed that the organisation remain fully functional and emphasised the inclusion of regular and active members in the next committee, rather than irregular participants.
General secretary Sheikh Mohsin, in his speech, expressed gratitude to the picnic committee and all members for their month-long tireless efforts in organising the banquet and ensuring its success.
The picnic organising committee was led by convener Md Mahbubur Rahman, with joint convener Munshi Abdul Ali and member secretary Hafizur Rahman and Jahangir Sikder. Other committee members included Md Momitul Islam, Sarwar Kabir Shakeel, Abida Sultana, Md Masood Rana Hanif, Deen Friend Roy, Md Helal Uddin, Md Selim Chabbir, Md Faruk, Ariful Islam Sohel, Mainul Hossain Mohin, Asaduzzaman Asad, Md Ibrahim Hossain, Maruf Rahman, Zahirul Haque and Bishu Kumar Selim.
The event was conducted throughout the day by Sarwar Kabir Shakeel. One of the main attractions of the banquet was a series of football matches and traditional sports events which drew enthusiastic participation from members.
Another highlight was an engaging raffle draw and a cultural programme held in the evening, adding a festive dimension to the event. The first prize of the raffle draw was a Dhaka–Kuala Lumpur–Dhaka air ticket, courtesy of AirAsia. The second prize was a Dhaka–Cox's Bazar–Dhaka air ticket sponsored by US-Bangla Airlines, while Novoair sponsored another Dhaka–Cox's Bazar–Dhaka air ticket.
In his closing remarks, picnic committee convener Md Mahbubur Rahman thanked the PIMA leadership, members and all patrons for their overall cooperation. He expressed special gratitude to organisations and individuals who supported the event.
Notable patrons included bKash, Brother's Hotels, AirAsia, US-Bangla Airlines, Novoair, Walton, Bhorer Sky, Cash, Popular Life Insurance, Picabo, Standard Bank PLC, SACO Watch and Shahjalal Islami Bank PLC.
Organisers said the banquet further strengthened camaraderie and a sense of brotherhood among PIMA members, giving the organisation renewed momentum for the future.
