Jamaat ameer hands over ‘Shapla Koli’ symbol to two female NCP candidates
The two NCP women candidates are Dilshana Parul, contesting from Dhaka-19 (Savar-Ashulia), and Nabila Tasnid, contesting from Dhaka-20 (Dhamrai).
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman today (31 January) handed over the 'Shapla Koli' electoral symbol to two female candidates of the National Citizen Party (NCP), a partner of the 11-party alliance, contesting in two constituencies of Dhaka district in the upcoming national parliamentary election.
Shafiqur handed over the symbol to the candidates at an election rally organised by the 11-party alliance in Dhaka's Keraniganj.
The two NCP women candidates are Dilshana Parul, contesting from Dhaka-19 (Savar-Ashulia), and Nabila Tasnid, contesting from Dhaka-20 (Dhamrai).
Introducing the candidates at the rally, the Jamaat ameer said, "We have nominated our sister Dilshana Parul for the Dhaka-19 constituency. Witnessing the blood of youths and the tears of mothers and sisters, she left her luxurious life in Australia and returned to the country. She will speak on behalf of nine crore mothers and will raise her voice to protect the rights of 18 crore people, InshaAllah."
Speaking about the Dhaka-20 candidate, he said Nabila Tasnid is a graduate of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET). "We want to hand over new technology to the new generation. She will work as one of the drivers of that technological advancement," he added.
In his address as the chief guest, the Jamaat ameer said, "Had there not been the July Uprising, the 2026 election would not have taken place; those who deny the sacrifices of July are, in fact, denying the people's aspiration for liberation."
Speaking at the rally, NCP Convener Nahid Islam said this election is not an ordinary one; it is an election to protect Bangladesh's sovereignty, democracy and voting rights.
"This election will decide whether Bangladesh stands tall or once again falls into the grip of hegemonic forces," he added.
