Two-day workshop highlights strengths, risks for plastic exporters
A two-day workshop on "Enterprise Level Preparedness for LDC Graduation in Line with National Strategies" was jointly organised by the Plastic Products Business Promotion Council (PPBPC) and the Bangladesh Plastic Goods Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BPGMEA) on 8 and 9 December, 2025 at Hotel 71 in Bijoynagar, Dhaka.
Nahid Afroz, joint secretary (Export-1) at the Ministry of Commerce and chief executive officer of the Business Promotion Council, attended as special guest.
BPGMEA President Shamim Ahmed presided over the workshop. Hafizur Rahman, former additional secretary of the WTO Cell under the Ministry of Commerce, delivered the keynote address. The workshop focused on the challenges the plastic sector will face in export markets after Bangladesh graduates from LDC status in 2026, and highlighted the sector's key advantages and constraints.
Other speakers included Dr Bikarna Kumar Ghosh, chief executive officer of the FBCCI Innovation and Research Centre; Sheikh Mohammad Abdur Rahman, joint secretary at the Ministry of Commerce and deputy project director of the EC4J Project; and Dr Md Habibur Rahman, deputy secretary and deputy project director of the EC4J Project.
The concluding session of the workshop was held on 9 December, 2025, with Ministry of Commerce Deputy Secretary and Business Promotion Council Director Dr Razzaqul Islam in attendance.
Also present were former BPGMEA President A S M Kamal Uddin; BPGMEA Vice President Quazi Anwarul Haque; BPGMEA Director ATM Syeedur Rahman Bulbul; and BPGMEA Secretary General Narayan Chandra Dey.
