ACC stated that Nazrul Islam Mazumder abused his authority, took bribes, and engaged in corruption to acquire assets worth Tk781.31 crore
A Dhaka court has ordered the seizure of assets worth Tk44.78 crore, including a 39.75-katha plot in Gulshan and 487 decimal of land, owned by Nassa Group Chairman Nazrul Islam Mazumder, in connection with ongoing corruption allegations.
The order was issued today (24 November) by Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Sabbir Faiz, following a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), confirmed Bench Assistant Md Riaz Hossain.
According to the petition filed by ACC Assistant Director Shahjahan Miraj, the seized properties include 310 decimals of land in Sonargaon upazila of Narayanganj, 177 decimals of land in Ashulia, Dhaka
ACC stated that Nazrul Islam Mazumder abused his authority, took bribes, and engaged in corruption to acquire assets worth Tk781.31 crore, which are inconsistent with his declared income. A case has already been filed in this regard.
Earlier, on 6 March and 18 November, the court ordered the attachment and freezing of several other properties belonging to the Nassa Group chairman.
The graft body's petition further noted that the accused has been trying to sell off various properties in the name of clearing workers' wages and settling other dues of Nassa Group. If the assets are transferred, sold or concealed before the case is disposed of, it would cause significant loss to the state.
Therefore, seizure of the properties was deemed necessary.
On 18 November, the court froze additional holdings including 16 deeds in Tejgaon, 30 deeds in Badda, 7 deeds in the Jolshiri Residential Project, totalling 162 kathas of land valued at Tk180.37 crore
