ACC seals ex-AL MP Iqbal's Banani office after raid
The anti-graft agency seized more than 300 property deeds, cheque books, electronic devices and fixed-deposit documents during the operation.
The Anti-Corruption Commission has sealed the Banani office of former Awami League MP and former Premier Bank chairman HBM Iqbal following a four-day raid, a senior ACC official confirmed it today (17 August).
The anti-graft body led by Deputy Director Md Hossain Sharif is investigating Premier Group as part of a broader probe into allegations of corruption and money laundering involving former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, her family members and 10 business groups.
During the raid, ACC officials seized more than 300 property documents, cheque books, a MacBook, several mobile phones and seven electronic devices, as well as fixed-deposit-related documents.
The commission sealed Iqbal's office on the 16th floor of Iqbal Centre after completing the operation.
However, the ACC yesterday questioned three senior Premier Group officials as part of the money laundering probe. They are Chief Executive Officer Mostafa Talukdar, Chief Financial Officer Mizanur Rahman and General Manager ADM Nazmul Islam.
Premier Bank had its head office at Iqbal Centre for 26 years after receiving its banking licence in 1999.
Following the fall of the Awami League government on 5 August 2024, the ACC began investigating allegations of bribery, corruption, fraud, forgery, money laundering and tax and customs evasion involving Sheikh Hasina's family and 10 business groups. Premier Group was later added to the list.
So far, 16 cases have been filed against the group, while reports recommending five more cases have been submitted.
