Cast 'No' vote in July Charter referendum: BNP's Farroque
“Voters will have two ballots this time — one for party symbols and another for the referendum. Our leaders will brief you to cast ‘No’ vote,“ he says
BNP Chairperson's Advisory Council member Zainul Abedin Farroque has called on people to cast a "No" vote in the upcoming referendum on implementing the July National Charter.
"Voters will have two ballots this time — one for party symbols and another for the referendum. Our leaders will brief you to cast 'No' vote," he said while addressing a union-level Jatiotabadi Mohila Dal representatives' meeting in Noakhali today (14 November).
Farroque's remarks came a day after Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus announced that the referendum — featuring a single "Yes/No" question on four constitutional reform proposals — will be held on the same day as February's national election.
He accused the government and parties of creating confusion, saying, "There is a conspiracy. Some say they will join the election, some say they won't. Now we hear they won't contest unless they get the post of deputy prime minister. Earlier it was PR, then referendum."
Addressing BNP leaders who did not receive nominations, he said, "It's not true that anyone was denied nomination due to personal hostility. You had expectations, but now it's time to stop rallies and processions. Let us strictly follow Tarique Rahman's clear instructions."
