Health adviser urges officials to mobilise support for 'Yes' vote
She urged Pabna officials to promote a “Yes” vote in the 12 February referendum through grassroots outreach.
Stressing the need for people-centric communication, Health and Family Welfare Adviser Nurjahan Begum yesterday called on district-level officials to actively persuade voters to cast a "Yes" vote in the referendum scheduled for 12 February.
Speaking at an exchange of views with district officials on the 2026 referendum in Pabna, she said voters who understand the issue will make informed choices regardless of campaigns for a "No" vote.
"A conscious voter has integrity, intelligence and the ability to judge," she noted.
Urging officials to go beyond routine outreach, the adviser said extensive activities—such as courtyard meetings, posters and leaflet distribution—must translate into understanding at the grassroots.
"You are educated people. Wherever you go, explain the issues in your own way and tell voters why you are asking them to vote "Yes". We want them to vote with understanding," she said.
Referring to July uprising as a turning point for the nation, Nurjahan said the sacrifices of young people had opened a new window of possibility to build a discrimination-free society.
"We must first internalise this vision ourselves; only then can we explain it to others," she added.
The programme was chaired by Pabna Deputy Commissioner Shahed Mostafa, with Health and Family Welfare Ministry Secretary Md Saidur Rahman attending as a special guest. Senior officials from various departments were also present.
Later, the adviser visited a voting vehicle campaign at the Pabna Government Edward College field.
