Tech literacy is a must for young jobseekers: Speakers
Speakers at a virtual session urged young people to prepare themselves for revolutionised post-pandemic workplaces by developing technological skills
The post Covid-19 employment sector will seek skilled candidates who are technologically literate and possess job-relevant expertise, speakers said at a webinar on Wednesday.
"The pandemic has increased the usage of technology and jobs have started adapting themselves to it which is why jobseekers now must have technological proficiency," said Ilmul Haque Sajib, co-founder of Sheba XYZ.
He thinks that recruiters value a candidate's eagerness and capacity to do a job, so applicants must first ask themselves whether they love the work they are applying to do.

Highlighting that Covid-19 has revolutionised our workplaces, Porni Mazumder, head of HR at Marks and Spencer said, "Previously working outside the office was almost unthinkable to many but now we are doing just that."
She also said that the employment scope has not decreased and that technology has the potential to boost our productivity.
Porni has also urged young people to work towards developing their technological capabilities.
Ivdad Ahmed Khan Mojlish, co-founder and managing director of LightCastle Partners, said, "Youth resembles hope and they must prepare themselves for the digitalised world."
Citing a study, he claimed that about 15 million people will have lost jobs due to the pandemic in Bangladesh.
A total 30% of companies in the country will not be hiring right now and 40% will hire fewer people; while only 20% might increase recruitment, he added citing another study.
"However, this might open the door for youngsters to pursue more diverse employment opportunities," he said.
The webinar titled "Reimagining Jobs after Covid-19" was organised by the EMK Center, the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh and The Business Standard.
